背面描述 Draped bust of Helios facing right, crowned with a radiate diadem of elongated rays projecting prominently from the head, with flowing hair rendered in the Hellenistic tradition. The drapery falls over the left shoulder, visible at the bust truncation. The date regnal formula L ΚΑ appears in the field to the right of the bust, indicating Year 21 of the reign of Antoninus Pius. The composition is characteristic of Alexandrian civic reverse types celebrating solar deities popular under the Antonine dynasty.

附加信息

Year 21 of Antoninus Pius's reign fell deep into what historians now consider one of the more administratively stable decades of the Roman Empire — which is precisely why Alexandrian bronze from this period is easy to overlook. The Alexandria mint operated under the prefect of Egypt as a closed currency system; coins struck there were not legal tender elsewhere in the empire and could not leave Egypt without being exchanged at the border. That isolation makes Alexandrian bronzes a distinct monetary tradition, not simply a provincial echo of Rome.

The regnal-year dating system used by the Alexandria mint — expressed here as L ΚΑ — derives from the Egyptian calendar and is one of the few reliable chronological anchors for sequencing this prolific series.
