The emperor's laurel wreath is prominently depicted, with curling hair and a short beard visible below. The Greek imperial legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The bust shows the typical Antonine style of portraiture with a broad, well-modelled face and strong neck. The flan is irregular, as is characteristic of large Alexandrian bronze issues of this period. |

Regnal year 8 of Antoninus Pius corresponds to 144–145 AD, a period of unusual administrative stability in Egypt — the prefecture changed hands without incident and grain shipments to Rome continued without recorded disruption. Alexandria's mint was prolific in this year, producing a wide typological range, and the volume of output means survivors are encountered with some regularity, though heavy circulation in the Egyptian climate left most examples in poor condition. The bronze fabric of Alexandrian provincials from this reign tends toward broad, thin flans that chip easily at the edges.
