Beschrijving voorzijde Laureate, cuirassed and paludamentum-draped bust of Antoninus Pius facing right, presented in three-quarter frontal view. The emperor's effigy is rendered with characteristic realism of the Antonine period, with the paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. The encircling obverse legend, in Greek script, identifies the emperor by his full imperial titulature and runs around the periphery of the flan.

Aanvullende informatie

Year 12 of Antoninus Pius's reign fell during one of the most stable decades of Roman imperial administration Egypt ever experienced. The Alexandria mint was prolific in this period, issuing an exceptional variety of bronze denominations tied to the regnal year system — a dating practice unique to Egyptian coinage that makes precise attribution straightforward where it is nearly impossible elsewhere in the empire.

The ΔωΔΕΚΑΤΟΥ designation marks this as a Year 12 piece, corresponding to 148–149 AD, a year before Antoninus celebrated the 900th anniversary of Rome's founding with games and a substantial donative.
