| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse depicts the Second Labour of Heracles — the slaying of the Lernaean Hydra. Heracles advances to the left, his lion skin draped around his neck and shoulders, grasping the multi-headed Hydra by its serpent heads with his left hand while raising his club overhead with his right hand, preparing to strike the creature coiled on the ground before him. The composition is dynamic and fills the flan, consistent with the ambitious mythological reverse types favoured by the Alexandrian mint during the reign of Antoninus Pius. The regnal date legend appears in the field. |
