The composition follows the canonical iconographic type of the Lydian mother-goddess worshipped at Saitta, combining her attributes of the turreted crown, the tympanum, and the lion as her sacred animal. The partially preserved reverse legend in Greek, reading ] ϹΑΙΤ?ΤΗΝΩΝ, identifies the issuing civic authority of Saitta in Lydia. The style and fabric are consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the Antonine period from the Conventus of Sardis. |
