Obverse description Youthful bare-headed bust of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, facing right, with characteristically thick curly hair rendered in the early Antonine style. The portrait is set within a circular border, with the Greek imperial legend distributed around the periphery of the field. The effigy displays the smooth, unbearded features of the young Caesar prior to his adoption of the full beard seen on later coinage, consistent with portraits datable to the period 139–144 AD.
