She holds a ship's rudder resting upon a globe in her right hand, symbolising destiny and the guidance of the city's fate, and a cornucopia in her left hand, representing prosperity and abundance. A multi-line Greek inscription surrounds the figure, referencing the local magistrate Aurelius Charidemos son of Gaianus, serving as first archon for the second time, a formula typical of Cadian civic bronze coinage of the mid-third century AD. The coin was struck under the authority of this local official, as was customary in the cities of the Conventus of Sardis. |
