(Translation: Emperor Trajan, the Best, Augustus Germanicus Dacicus Parthicus)
Reverse description Zeus reclining to the left upon the back of a spread-winged eagle, the god holding a thunderbolt in his extended hand. The eagle's wings are dramatically outstretched and rendered with fine feather detail, occupying the majority of the reverse field. The date legend L ΙΘ (regnal year 19) appears in the field to the right of the eagle, a standard feature of Alexandrian coinage used to date issues by the Egyptian regnal year. The composition is typical of the Alexandrian mint's Jupiter-eagle type, reflecting the syncretism of Roman and Egyptian religious iconography.
