Beschrijving voorzijde Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, portrayed from the rear, with finely engraved hair and visible paludamentum and lorica segmentata at the truncation. The effigy is rendered in the characteristic Trajanic portrait style, with the laurel wreath denoting imperial and military honour. A Greek legend encircles the bust within a beaded border, running from the lower left around to the right field. The flan shows an irregular edge with a notable chip, characteristic of Alexandrian provincial bronze coinage of this period.

Aanvullende informatie

Year 18 of Trajan's reign coincided with his Parthian campaign, the most ambitious Roman eastern offensive since Antony. Alexandria's mint was administratively active throughout, producing the dated regnal issues that make Egyptian provincial bronze so useful to historians — the L followed by the regnal numeral functions as an absolute chronological anchor unavailable in most other provincial series. This piece falls in the campaign's opening year, before Trajan crossed the Euphrates.
