Year 12 of Trajan's reign in Egypt — 108/109 AD — falls squarely within the Dacian War period, though Alexandrian civic bronzes of this year were struck under Roman prefectural administration with no direct connection to the military campaigns. The Alexandria mint operated on a regnal year system tied to the Egyptian calendar, reset each Thoth 1, which is why dating these pieces requires converting to the dual-year format rather than a single Roman consular year.
The Æ33 module is among the larger denominations in the Alexandrian bronze sequence for this reign. Specimens from this precise regnal year are not rare, but attrition through corrosion in the Nile Delta soil means problem-free surfaces are uncommon.
