Obverse description Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander facing right, rendered in three-quarter view seen from the rear, a convention occasionally employed in provincial Greek coinage of the Severan period. The emperor's paludamentum is visible over the cuirass, and the laureate wreath frames his head in the imperial tradition. The obverse legend encircles the bust, identifying the emperor with his full titulature in Greek. The portrait treatment reflects the stylistic conventions of the Mysian provincial mint at Abydus.
