Amorium sat in the interior of Phrygia, far enough from the Aegean coast that its civic coinage under the Severans reflects local boosterism more than imperial instruction. Cities in the Synnada conventus operated under the Roman assize system but retained considerable autonomy in deciding when and why to strike bronze — typically pegging issues to festivals, imperial visits, or the need to lubricate local markets during a new reign. Septimius Severus's accession in 193 triggered a wave of such civic bronze across Asia Minor as cities scrambled to demonstrate loyalty to the new dynast fresh from civil war.
V.2#1034 is sparsely represented in major collections, consistent with the general thinness of Amorium's surviving civic output from this period.
