Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I facing right, seen from the rear, the emperor depicted in military attire carrying a round shield adorned with a gorgoneion boss on his left arm and a spear levelled forward over his right shoulder. The legend is arranged around the periphery of the field in Greek characters.

Reverse description Cybele, the Phrygian mother goddess, enthroned and facing left upon a high-backed throne, her right hand extending a patera and her left arm resting upon a tympanum; a lion couchant is depicted on each side of her throne, flanking the deity in heraldic symmetry. The encircling Greek legend identifies the issuing civic authority. The composition reflects the prominent local cult of Cybele in the Phrygian region.
