Alexandria, as the administrative and intellectual capital of Roman Egypt, continued minting its distinctive bronze series under the careful eye of the prefect, operating on the Egyptian regnal calendar rather than the Roman consular one — a bureaucratic quirk that makes precise dating of Alexandrian bronzes unusually reliable compared to most provincial issues.
The L ΙΗ date formula, marking regnal year 18, places this piece in a relatively prolific phase of Alexandrian output under Hadrian, who visited Egypt personally in 130–131 AD.
