| Reverse description | The god Nilus personified reclines to the left upon the back of a crocodile, his body semi-draped in flowing robes rendered with fine detail. In his raised right hand he holds a long reed or papyrus stalk, while his left arm cradles a cornucopia overflowing with abundance, symbolising the fertility of the Nile. The regnal date legend L ΙΗ (Year 18) appears prominently in the left field. The composition is a quintessential emblem of Alexandrian coinage, celebrating the life-giving role of the Nile to Egypt. |
