| Beschrijving keerzijde | The two Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux, depicted as clothed standing figures facing one another in frontal posture, each equipped with a long spear held upright in the outer hand and a parazonium (short sword) in the inner hand. The twin deities are rendered in the schematic provincial style characteristic of Alexandrian bronze coinage, their figures symmetrically flanking the regnal date. The date legend L ΙΗ appears in the field between the figures, denoting regnal year 18 of Hadrian (133–134 AD). The reverse field shows significant wear and encrustation but the iconography of the Dioscuri remains clearly legible. The composition reflects the syncretic religious traditions of Roman Alexandria, where the Dioscuri were venerated as protective deities. |
