| Reverse description | A sphinx, adorned with the Egyptian atef crown composed of a solar disc, flanking horns, and upright feathers, strides to the right upon a serpent. From the chest of the sphinx emerges a crocodile, a distinctly syncretic Alexandrian iconographic motif blending Greco-Roman and Egyptian religious symbolism. The regnal date legend appears in the field. The reverse type is characteristic of the rich mythological repertoire employed by the Alexandrian mint under Hadrian. |
