Nicaea's civic bronze output under Gordian III was prolific — the city leveraged imperial favor aggressively during his reign, producing a wide range of denominations and types to assert local prestige within Bithynia. The mint was among the most active in the region, and the volume of surviving material reflects it.
At 24 grams, this falls at the heavier end of the city's Æ33 production, suggesting an earlier strike before progressive die wear and metal economies trimmed later issues.
