Obverse description Confronted jugate busts of Emperor Gordian III, laureate, draped, and cuirassed, facing right, and Empress Tranquillina, diademed and draped, facing left, both rendered frontally in a facing-pair composition characteristic of provincial colonial coinage. The imperial couple is presented in the Severan tradition of dynastic portraiture, with the legend encircling the busts across the full field.
