| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing figures of Emperor Gordian III and King Abgar X of Osroene in a formal confrontation scene: Gordian III stands to the right, clad in military attire, holding a short sceptre in his right hand and a globe in his left, symbolising Roman imperial authority over the world. Facing him, Abgar X stands to the left, wearing his distinctive royal tiara, extending a crown toward the emperor with one hand while bearing a sword in the other, in a gesture of submission and alliance. The bilateral Greek legend, naming both rulers, is disposed around the field, making this one of the rare provincial issues commemorating a formal meeting between a Roman emperor and a client king. |
