Beschrijving keerzijde Heracles seated left upon a rocky outcrop, his body turned slightly toward the viewer, his right hand resting upon a club planted on the ground beside him, and his left hand resting upon the rock. The figure is rendered in a classical style typical of Mysian provincial coinage. The Greek legend encircles the scene, with ΝΕΟΚΟΡΩ appearing in the lower exergual area, referencing Cyzicus's honored status as a neocorate city.

Aanvullende informatie

Cyzicus held the coveted title of neokoros — keeper of an imperial cult temple — multiple times over, and coins asserting that status were a deliberate civic boast rather than routine production. The truncated magistrate name in the obverse legend, almost certainly a strategos, reflects how frequently these large civic bronzes were struck across short magistracies, leaving many issues partially identified at best.

Elagabalus's reign lasted just four years before his murder by the Praetorian Guard in 222 AD, which compresses the window for all issues bearing his titles considerably.
