| Opschrift voorzijde | ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΥΡΗ ϹΕΥΗΡΟϹ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ (Translation: Emperor Caesar Marcus Aurelius Severus Antoninus) |
| Beschrijving keerzijde | Mythological scene depicting Ariadne reclining to the left within the grotto of Naxos, her right hand raised to her head in a pose of sleep or repose. To the left, Dionysus stands facing right, holding a thyrsus in his right hand and extending his left hand toward Ariadne. A small Eros figure appears in the center of the composition, serving as an intermediary between the two principal figures. The scene illustrates the moment of Dionysus discovering the sleeping Ariadne on Naxos, a popular subject in Phrygian provincial coinage of the Severan period. The reverse legend is distributed around the field. |
