Æ33 - Antoninus Pius L ΙΗ

Year 18 of Antoninus Pius's reign, which is what the regnal date L ΙΗ records, fell during one of the most administratively stable decades in Roman imperial history — the provinces ran almost without incident, and Egypt was no exception. Alexandria's mint was a closed currency system; Roman denarii and local bronze circulated in parallel but could not legally be exchanged outside Egypt's borders, a monetary isolation enforced since Augustus that gave the Alexandrian mint unusual autonomy over its own production schedules and type selection.
