Reverse description A winged sphinx seated to the right occupies the central field, wearing the basileion (Egyptian royal crown), with its right forepaw resting upon a wheel — a symbol of Fortune and fate. The sphinx's wings are spread upward and its leonine body is rendered with detail typical of Alexandrian civic coinage. The date regnal legend appears in the lower exergual area. The overall design reflects the blending of Greco-Roman and Egyptian iconographic traditions characteristic of Alexandrian provincial coinage.
