背面描述 Draped bust of Sarapis facing right, surmounted by the characteristic kalathos (modius), the syncretic Greco-Egyptian deity rendered with full curling beard and flowing drapery. Beneath the bust, a bare human foot is depicted facing right, a distinctive iconographic element associated with Alexandrian religious imagery. The regnal year date L Γ (year 3) appears in the right field, rendered in Greek numerals typical of Alexandrian dating conventions.

附加信息

Year three of Antoninus Pius's reign — designated by the regnal date L Γ on these Alexandrian issues — fell early enough that the new emperor was still consolidating the administrative inheritance left by Hadrian, who had only died in July 138. The Alexandria mint under Roman rule operated on a distinct Egyptian calendar year running from late summer, meaning this coin's production window was narrow.

Alexandrian bronze of this size circulated locally within Egypt, which functioned as a closed monetary system; coins from the imperial Roman mint did not legally circulate there, and Egyptian issues were not exported.
