背面描述 The Dioscuri — Castor and Pollux — depicted as equestrian figures, each crowned with a star, riding on horseback towards one another in a facing confrontation. Each figure holds what appears to be a whip or lance. A crescent moon is prominently placed in the upper field between the two riders, a motif common to Alexandrian coinage referencing celestial symbolism. The date regnal formula L Ε appears in the field, indicating the fifth year of Antoninus Pius's reign.

附加信息

This piece dates to regnal year 5 of Antoninus Pius (141–142 AD), a period when the Alexandrian mint was operating at considerable volume under Roman provincial administration. The dating by regnal year — rendered in Greek numerals on the coin itself — is a distinctly Egyptian convention that makes precise attribution unusually straightforward compared to most provincial bronze.

Antoninus Pius never visited Egypt. Imperial policy kept him in Rome for his entire reign, the only emperor of the adoptive dynasty to never leave Italy.
