| Obverse description | Radiate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Severus Alexander facing left, the shield adorned with a Gorgoneion (Medusa head) shown en face and resting against the left arm, while the right shoulder bears an eagle-tipped sceptre. The peripheral legend surrounds the imperial effigy in Greek characters. The portrait is rendered in the provincial Syrian workshop style characteristic of Edessan civic coinage of the Severan period. |

| Reverse description | The Tyche of Edessa is depicted seated left upon a rocky outcrop, holding ears of corn in her extended hand as a symbol of civic prosperity. A lighted altar appears at her feet, and a star is placed in each field to either side of the figure. In the lower exergue, a river god swims to the left, personifying the Daisan (Skirtos) river upon which Edessa was situated. The reverse legend in Greek identifies the metropolitan colonial status of the city. |
