| Beschrijving keerzijde | Asclepius, the god of medicine and healing, depicted standing and facing right, his weight borne upon a tall serpent-entwined staff (the caduceus of Asclepius) held in his lowered right hand. His left hand rests upon his hip in a relaxed contrapposto pose. The reverse legend identifies the issuing civic community of Tium and invokes Asclepius in his role as divine saviour. The figure is rendered in the classicising style typical of Greek imperial bronzes from Bithynia. |
