| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, her elaborately waved hair drawn back and arranged in a large bun at the nape of the neck, a characteristic coiffure of the Severan empress. The bust is rendered with fine detail to the drapery folds at the shoulder. The encircling Greek legend reads ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΗ in the field around the effigy. The portrait displays the naturalistic style typical of provincial bronze coinage struck at Nicaea under the Severan dynasty. |
