Beschrijving keerzijde A humped bull (zebu) standing to the right, with a rectangular altar depicted to its right, both rendered in the bold, somewhat provincial style typical of Mysian civic coinage. The composition reflects the city's local religious and civic iconography associated with Attalea. The Greek legend surrounding the type names the strategos Euboulos, son of Apollonios, under whose magistracy the coin was struck, along with the ethnic of the Attaleans.

Aanvullende informatie

Attalea in Lydia was a minor polis that nonetheless participated actively in the Greek imperial bronze tradition, issuing coins under named local magistrates — here Eubulus son of Apollonius, whose strategia is recorded on this piece. The magistrate's name appearing in the ethnic formula was a civic honor as much as an administrative record, and these Lydian bronzes are among the few surviving traces of such officeholders.
