| Reverse description | Hera standing right, holding a pomegranate (?) and a sceptre, facing Zeus standing left, who holds an anchor and a sceptre; at the feet of Zeus, to the left, an eagle is depicted. The juxtaposition of Zeus with an anchor — an attribute unusual for the deity — may reflect a local civic or cultic significance particular to Ancyra. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, names the local magistrate responsible for the coinage issue. The composition is rendered in the provincial Greek die-cutting tradition, with figures occupying the full coin field. |
