| Reverse description | Athena standing facing, head turned to the right, resting upon a spear held in her left hand and extending Nike in her right hand toward Demeter, who stands facing with head turned to the left, holding ears of grain in one hand and resting upon a tall sceptre with the other. The two deities are depicted in a formal confrontational composition typical of provincial civic coinage, symbolising divine patronage of wisdom, victory, and agricultural abundance. The reverse legend ΑΜΙϹΟΥ ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΑϹ ΕΤ ϹΜΑ appears in the field, denoting the free city of Amisus and the civic year 241 (corresponding to 209–210 AD). |
