Obverse description Confronted bare-headed busts of the co-emperors Marcus Aurelius (left) and Lucius Verus (right), both draped in paludamentum; Marcus Aurelius is distinguished by his characteristic long beard with short curls. The encircling legend names both rulers in Greek characters, running around the outer field. The jugate or facing portrait type reflects the official imagery of the joint reign (161–169 AD), executed in the provincial Greek civic die-cutting tradition.
