At his feet, a doe is rendered in the lower field, alluding to the Arcadian myth associated with Heracles and Telephus. The Greek legend encircling the design identifies the issuing magistrate and civic authority of Midaeum, typical of the honorific formulae employed on Phrygian provincial bronzes of the Severan and Gordian periods. |
