Obverse description Confronted busts of Gordian III and his empress Tranquillina: the laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian III faces right, jugate with the diademed and draped bust of Tranquillina facing left. The encircling Greek legend names both rulers in their imperial titulature. The jugate portrait type is a hallmark of provincial coinage celebrating the imperial couple jointly.
