| Beschrijving keerzijde | Tyche of Nisibis depicted seated left upon a rocky outcrop, her figure draped, veiled, and turreted, holding ears of corn in her outstretched hand. Above and behind her, a ram is shown moving left, symbolising the astrological sign of Aries as the tutelary sign of the city. In the exergue below, a river god swims left, personifying the Mygdonius River upon which Nisibis stood. The reverse legend in Greek encircles the field, identifying the city as a Septimian colony and metropolis of Mesopotamia. The composition reflects the standard civic reverse type employed at Nisibis under the Severan dynasty and its successors. |
