| Obverse description | Confronted busts of Emperor Gordian III and Empress Tranquillina facing one another: Gordian III depicted radiate, draped, and cuirassed, his bust facing right and seen from the rear, while Tranquillina appears with a diademed and draped bust facing left. The encircling obverse legend names both rulers in Greek characters, spanning the full perimeter of the flan. The jugate or confronted arrangement of the imperial couple is a hallmark of provincial coinage celebrating dynastic union. |
