| Beschrijving keerzijde | Poseidon, god of the sea, depicted standing facing right with his right foot raised and resting upon the prow of a ship, in a dynamic contrapposto pose. He holds a trident upright in his left hand and a dolphin in his outstretched right hand, emblematic of Pompeiopolis's maritime identity and its civic pride as a coastal Cilician city. The Greek ethnic legend ΠΟΜΠΗΙΟΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ is inscribed around the field, accompanied by the civic era dating ϚΤ ϚΑ (year 226, 21st regnal year equivalent, corresponding to 240–241 AD). The reverse type and epigraphy are consistent with the well-documented series of civic bronzes struck at Pompeiopolis under Gordian III. |
