The athlete on the right holds a palm branch in his left hand and raises his right hand to crown himself, signifying victory. The athlete on the left leans forward and drops a pebble or token into the urn, a gesture associated with the casting of lots in Greek athletic competitions. Above and between the figures, a prize crown is depicted, referencing the agonistic games celebrated at Synnada. The reverse type reflects the city's pride in its local games and is accompanied by a divided inscription naming the city and the presiding archon. |

Synnada, a Phrygian city best known in antiquity for its prized marble quarries, struck civic bronze during Gallienus's sole reign after the capture of his father Valerian by Shapur I in 260 AD — an event that shattered Roman prestige in the East and forced provincial cities to navigate loyalty to a suddenly diminished dynasty. The magistrate name partially preserved in the obverse legend, likely a local archon, is one of several known from Synnadene civic issues of this period but remains imperfectly catalogued.
