| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gallienus facing right, depicted from the rear in the characteristic three-quarter back view favoured in later provincial coinage. The effigy displays a laurel wreath crowning the head, with paludamentum and segmented cuirass rendered in detailed relief. The Greek imperial titulature legend runs clockwise around the bust within a beaded border, occupying the full circumference of the field. |

The overall design commemorates the city's status as thrice-neocorate and host of the first games of the Koinon of Asia, following standard civic honorific types of the Smyrnaean mint. |
