He snaps the fingers of his raised left hand in rhythmic gesture while his right arm extends outward, and he carries a pedum (shepherd's crook) in his left hand. The energetic, animated rendering of Pan is characteristic of the Dionysiac thiasos imagery favoured on provincial bronzes of Asia Minor. The encircling Greek legend names the presiding archon Iason and identifies the civic authority of Tabae. |

Tabae was a mid-tier Carian city whose civic bronze issues under Gallienus reflect a broader pattern of provincial mints asserting local identity during the military crisis of the third century, when central imperial authority was fracturing badly enough that cities like Tabae were left largely to manage their own coinage. The magistrate name preserved in the legend — Iason — is otherwise unattested in the epigraphic record for Tabae, making this piece a minor but real contribution to the prosopography of the city's civic administration.
