Regnal year 21 of Caracalla's Egyptian era places this issue squarely in the months following the Constitutio Antoniniana of 212 AD, which extended Roman citizenship to virtually all free inhabitants of the empire. Alexandria's mint continued producing its own bronze civic coinage regardless — Egyptian provincial bronze operated entirely outside the Roman imperial system, denominated in drachms and obols rather than asses, and the city retained that monetary distinctiveness until Diocletian's reforms forcibly unified the currency in 296 AD.
