Tralles, a prosperous city in the Maeander valley, held the right to strike civic bronze under the joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus — one of the last periods in which Asian Greek cities actively exercised that privilege before the collapse of the provincial bronze coinage system in the 260s. The magistrate named in the legend, Aurelius Zosimos, was almost certainly a local notable who paid for or administered the issue as a civic honor, a common arrangement in the conventus of Ephesus. His full tria nomina suggest Roman citizenship, likely acquired within the preceding generation.
