Reverse description Demeter standing facing, head turned to the left, depicted in long chiton and himation in the classical provincial style. In her right hand she holds ears of grain, and in her left hand a long torch, both attributes emblematic of her role as goddess of the harvest and fertility. The figure is rendered with careful attention to drapery, the folds of her garments falling naturalistically. The Greek legend encircles the field within a dotted border, proclaiming Nicomedia's prestigious twice-neocorate status.
