At left, Pan is seated on a rocky outcrop, his body turned right; he rests his right arm upon his knee and holds a pedum (shepherd's crook), while his left hand clasps a tree. At right, the river-god Hermos reclines to the left, holding a reed and what appears to be a cornucopia, and leans upon an overturned water-urn from which water flows — a standard personification of a river deity in provincial Greek coinage. The reverse legend naming the strategos Tatianus and the ethnic of Silandus frames the field. |
