Macrinus ruled for just fourteen months before being defeated by the forces of Elagabalus at the Battle of Antioch in June 218 — making civic bronzes struck in his name among the shortest-reigned imperial issues of the third century. Dorylaeum, a Phrygian city on the road between Nicaea and Synnada, issued prolifically under Severan emperors, but pieces bearing Macrinus are genuinely scarce simply because the window was so narrow.
The city's coins under this reign are poorly represented in major reference collections.
