| Beschrijving keerzijde | Zeus Olympios enthroned to the left, his lower body and left shoulder draped in a himation, the god's muscular torso bare. In his extended right hand he holds a small cult statue of Ephesian Artemis, the city's principal deity, while his left hand rests upon a tall sceptre. The composition draws a deliberate theological parallel between the supreme Olympian deity and the prestige of the Ephesian civic cult. The reverse legend ΖΕΥϹ ΟΛΥΜΠΙΟϹ ΕΦΕϹΙΩΝ is inscribed around the field, proclaiming Zeus Olympios as the god of the Ephesians. |
