Trapezopolis was a minor Lydian city whose civic coinage under Hadrian reflects the emperor's well-documented tour of the eastern provinces between 123 and 124 AD — a journey that prompted numerous Asian cities to issue bronze in his honor, partly as civic flattery, partly as a practical response to local bronze shortages. The magistrate name Lysios, cited in the genitive on this issue, identifies the annual official responsible for the emission; such eponymous magistracies were the standard administrative vehicle for civic bronze in the Conventus of Alabanda.
The "ΔΙΑ Τ Φ" abbreviation in the obverse legend almost certainly contracts a title formula involving the Asiatic koinon, though the precise expansion remains contested among specialists cataloging this series.
