The goddess is shown in the hieratic frontal pose traditional for this locally worshipped syncretistic deity, who combined aspects of the Greek Artemis with the Anatolian Anaïtis. The figure appears in a rigid, columnar stance with arms extended, flanked by attendant figures or cult objects, within a beaded border. The multi-part Greek magistrate legend is distributed around the periphery of the reverse field, recording the names of the local strategos and stephanephoros responsible for the coin's issue. |

Hypaepa was a small Lydian city whose civic coinage under Gordian III survives in enough variety to suggest an active local mint, yet individual dies are rarely reused across more than a handful of known specimens. The magistrate name preserved in this coin's legend — Aelius Domitius Stephanos Taetas — anchors it to a specific administrative moment, and cross-referencing that name against other Hypaepan bronzes has helped scholars sequence the city's issues across the emperor's reign.
The Conventus of Ephesus exercised loose supervisory authority over such civic issues, though production decisions and die cutting remained effectively local.
