Beschrijving voorzijde Draped and diademed bust of Empress Furia Sabinia Tranquillina facing right, depicted in the provincial Greek style typical of Lydian civic coinage under Gordian III. The portrait shows the empress with an elaborate stephane or diadem, her hair dressed in the fashion of the mid-third century. The circular Greek legend surrounds the bust within a beaded border. The engraving reflects competent local die-cutting characteristic of the Nysaean mint.

Aanvullende informatie

Nysa ad Maeandrum, a prosperous city in the Maeander valley of Lydia, issued bronze coinage prolifically under Gordian III, often naming the local magistrate responsible for the issue — here, Euphemos, whose title suggests he may have held the post a second time (the Β indicating a second term as grammateus). These civic bronzes were produced entirely at the initiative and expense of the city, not the imperial mint, making the named magistrate genuinely accountable for the strike's quality and execution.
